Assisted Senior Living Centers

Several years ago Mike Johnson introduced the Village Board to an organization called Abbeyfield.   Abbeyfield is a voluntary effort by people of good will and faith to assist the elderly to achieve a fulfilling way of life.  They have existed in the United Kingdom since the 1950s.  They have a unique approach to senior living.   They are a not-for-profit organization with a local board to assist in the management of the facilities.  Our first effort with Abbeyfield did not have legs because we had no sewer or a place to build.  With the new sewer it seems good to check to see if there is interest at this time. 

I have met twice with the local representatives as well as the international representatives.  I have also had an opportunity to tour their new facility in St. Joseph (still under construction).  This is the first Abbeyfield facility in America.  I will have information on the bulletin board in the Village Hall and in the office.  You can also go to the Abbeyfield web site to read more at  http://www.abbeyfield.com/, or visit their Face Book page,  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Abbeyfield-USA/261551122997.  They also have a “frequently asked questions” site at  http://abbeyfield-usa.org/faq.htm.

   This looks like a great thing for Homer.  I am excited about seeing where this goes.
